Hello [subscriber:firstname | default:Beloved],
“And make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die” (Genesis 27:4): this is Isaac’s special order to Esau, the eldest of his twins, to whom he wanted to grant the blessing of double divine favor. It is the dew of heaven and the fatness of the earth (Genesis 27 :28) of which I spoke to you last week and which is your portion in this year 2021. But what draws my attention are two facts that preceded this word of blessing.
Jacob, the youngest of the twins, was not qualified to “lambano” the blessing of his father Isaac. But he pretended to be Esau to his father to get the powerful blessings Isaac had planned. This usurpation orchestrated by Jacob is not a good example to follow between humans but it perfectly illustrates the image of refuge in Christ to obtain the graces and favors of God.
The blessing of the double favor that the Lord has in store for you can only be obtained by being hidden in Christ, by coming to the Father in the name of His Son Jesus Christ. “For you are dead and your life is hidden with Christ in God,” says the Word of God (Colossians 3:3). This speaks of true conversion. Have you received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior? Have you let Him take over the direction of your life? If not, I strongly encourage you to do so, for in Christ are all the blessings that God has in store for you.
Maybe you once made a commitment to give your life to Him, but are you really walking in obedience to His word? Or do you still have to be told to stop with the sin of fornication, adultery, pride, lies, jealousy…in short, with the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:16-21)? He who is in Christ is a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17), that is why he fears God and walks in newness of life and sanctification. If you recognize yourself, return to your Lord. In this way you will experience the double favor of blessing that God has in store for you.
The second element that caught my attention was Isaac’s special commission. Jacob cooked for him the meal he loved, it gladdened his soul and he pronounced the blessing of double favor in his life. “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to do His work,” the Lord Jesus clearly says in John 4:34. What will is that will? “This is good and acceptable before God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth,” answers the Scriptures in 1 Timothy 2:3-4. It is God’s will that souls be saved. But how can He hear about the Truth if no one preaches (Romans 10:14)?
Yes, God wants you to offer Him the meal He loves: He wants you to do His work, to win souls for Him, to proclaim the gospel around you. Stop focusing on your own needs and see the people who need Jesus, who need healing, who need comfort, who need help. Make your program for the year based on the salvation of souls. Plan times of prayer throughout the year for those who are lost and for those who are heartbroken.
Beloved, remain hidden in Christ, that the Father may see Him when He looks at you. Also, do the will of God, which Jesus speaks of in John 4:34. In doing so, you bring to the Lord the food that He loves. You do not do it to buy or deserve the blessing but to rejoice God’s heart.
May God bless you!
