Last week’s exhortation, entitled “When you pray, say Father”, focused on the importance of considering God as your Father, and becoming aware that you are God’s son/daughter and enjoying the benefits of this privileged status.
If all humans are God’s creatures, not all are God’s children. It is written in John 1:12 that “… as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name”. In this scripture, the Apostle John speaks of the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ (John 1:14, Revelation 19:13). Indeed, in order to be considered a son or daughter of God, it is absolutely necessary not only to receive Jesus Christ in your life as Lord and Savior, but also to believe in Him, in His name. “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,” says the Bible (Galatians 3:26).
God listens with a particular attention to His sons’ petitions. But who are really his sons if not those who obey His Word and do what it recommends? Being son/daughter of God requires loving Him as a Father, keeping His commandments and believing in what He says.
You want to enjoy the privileges of your status as a child of God; but do you listen to the voice of your heavenly Father? Do you do His works? Do you walk in His Spirit or do you allow yourself to be ruled by the works of the flesh? (Romans 8:14). “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven (…),” says the Lord in Matthew 5:43-45. Beloved, to be a son/daughter of God, you must do the Father’s will. Do you accept His word fully or are there aspects of His word that you reject when you feel that it does not suit you? Do you believe in the doctor’s diagnosis rather than your Father’s Word that tells you that you have been healed by Christ’s stripes (1 Peter 2:24)? Do you live in fornication, lies, corruption, wickedness, hatred, unforgiveness rather than walking in accordance with the Word of your Father? A son does what he has heard from his father and does his father’s works (John 8:38-39). “He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son” says your Father in Revelation 21:7.
“I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters (…)” also says the Bible (2 Corinthians 6:18). “(…) “How can I put you among the children and give you a pleasant land, a beautiful heritage of the hosts of nations? And I said: ‘You shall call Me, “My Father,” And not turn away from Me.” God tells you again in Jeremiah 3:19. The heavenly Father has set aside a glorious inheritance for His sons/daughters. He gives His children good things when they ask Him (Matthew 7:11). To benefit from this, you must be His genuine son / daughter.
May God bless you Beloved
“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly […] In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name”.
“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.””
“Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen”.
“Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.”
2 Corinthians 6:18
“I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.”
“…For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God“.
