When you list your needs, some of them tend to frighten you more than others. It could be about a never ending illness, in spite of your many prayers; your age that is advancing and you still don’t have any child; the time that is passing and you still don’t have the ideal partner; the creditor harassing you and you still don’t have what’s necessary to pay him; this close person for whom you pray, but who gets more and more incredulous; the approaching month end, yet you still don’t know how you to pay the rent; the bankruptcy of the company where you work and which is threatening to lay off certain employees, etc.
When facing such needs, you may feel overwhelmed by fear and worry. By reading Philippians 4:6-7, I have observed one thing: Just as it encourages you to make your needs known, the Bible also promises to give you divine peace first.
Why does peace come first, and not the answer to the prayer? This peace, as the Bible precises, goes beyond human understanding. When it comes in your heart, it keeps your heart and thoughts in Jesus-Christ, enabling you to acquire serenity and manage with calm the tough situation before you. If there’s any decision to take, this peace enables to avoid any inner agitation that would lead you to make mistakes and take bad decisions instead of the good ones.
Understand this beloved, fear with doubt, shyness, shame, confusion, etc. can stop you from perceiving the divine revelation and cause you to hinder the manifestation of the power of God: for instance, the fear of celibacy or menopause may lead you to take very bad decisions that could destroy your future.
God intends to answer your prayer indeed. But as long as worry is like a pandemonium in your heart, you will not hear the answer that he will send. It is in tranquility and peace that your salvation will come; it is in quietness and confidence that your strength shall be, as the Bible says in Isaiah 30:15. If you are agitated on the inside when you pray for your subject, you will fail to trust God and you will feel deprived of strength to face the challenge in front of you. If on the contrary, you receive peace first, your heart and your thoughts will be kept in Jesus, and you will be able to discern quickly God’s answers as well as his directives.
May the peace of God be your portion. Keep your calm and confident, and you will have the victory!
Let’s pray: “Lord, I’m going to be honest with You: I worry about my tomorrow. You know the challenge that I face. I heard your Word and I say no to fear, no to trouble, no to worry. May fear and worry not lead me to choose but I want You alone to inspire me.
Lord, grant me Your peace, this peace that surpasses all understanding. Keep my heart and my thoughts in Jesus-Christ and give me the grace to discern the solution that you have provided for me. In the name of Jesus, amen!”
May God bless you Beloved
