Hello [user:firstname | default:Beloved],
A few years back, I took a paragliding jump (mountain parachute) along with an instructor in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France. We first flew over the city for a few minutes before landing on a large green space. The space was surrounded by many trees and I held tightly the paragliding rudder. My instructor then tells me, “look at the green space, do not look at the trees. If you look at the trees, you be directed towards the trees but if you look at the green space, you will land there”. With my eyes stayed on the green space, I mechanically manipulated the rudder towards the green space and I was able to land just there.
This experience gave me a lesson: to land on the green space, I had to keep my eyes on my destination and not on the trees. The instructor did not tell me: “steer the rudder towards the green space“. He simply told me, “look at the green space“.
Do you remember the story of Peter walking on water in Matthew 14: 28-30? When Jesus told him, “Come,” he walked on the waters, moving towards Jesus. That means he was looking at Jesus, his final destination. “ But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me !” (Matthew 14: 30) Why did Peter sink? Because he turned his gaze away from his final destination who was Jesus to consider the violence of the wind !
“(…) I foresaw the Lord continually before me, because he is at my right hand that I may not be moved“, says the Bible in Acts 2:25. Yes, by keeping our eyes on the Lord, on His word, on His promises, you will not be shaken. Do not look at the doctor who told you that you have an incurable disease, but rather look to Jesus and His promises. Thus, divine health will be your portion ! Do not look at the unemployment rate that is in full swing in your country, but keep your eyes on Jesus who is able to give you work ! Do not look to the disbelief of your loved one for whom you have been praying for so long, but rather look to the One who died on the cross for him/her and wants to save him/her !
Sara did not look at her old age or her worn-out body, but she looked to Him who had promised her that she would have a child. Beloved, emulate Sara: do not look at difficulties or pitfalls that stand in your way. Look up to Him who has a plan of peace for you and not a plan of evil (Jeremiah 29:11).
Therefore, this week and in the weeks to come, practice keeping your eyes on Jesus. “Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.” says the Bible in Psalms 34: 5. Look up to Jesus and you will not be confounded ! Look up to Christ and you will land safely ! Look up to Jesus and you will fulfil your destiny !
