Hello [subscriber:firstname | default:Beloved],
I would like to share with you a scripture from the book of Exodus 32:19: “So it was, as soon as he came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing. So Moses’ anger became hot, and he cast the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain“. Just to put things in context, this portion of Scripture alludes to the story of Moses when he came down from the mountain, after having spent 40 days in the presence of the Lord. He was surprised to see, as he came down from the mountain, that the people of Israel had turned away from the living God to make another god symbolized by a golden calf. They dared to call it the Lord (Exodus 32:4-5) and worshipped it, believing they were worshipping the true God when they were not. In his anger, Moses broke the two tables on which God had published the covenant He had made with His people (Deuteronomy 4:13).
Today, many Christians break their own covenant of blessing with God the Father, which they entered through Jesus Christ, by giving priority to other people or things in their lives. They have made a golden calf for themselves without realizing it and have thus fallen into idolatry out of ignorance.
How to recognize a golden calf? It is simple. The golden calf is everything that comes between you and Christ; it is everything that you love and hold dearer to your heart than God.
Do you find it hard to pray and meditate on the Word of God because you have lost your job? Or because you have problems with your spouse? Or because you haven’t gotten the marriage or finances you hoped for? This means that these things or people are more important than God in your life. You are breaking your own covenant with the heavenly Father! Are you refusing to go to church because the senior pastor is absent? You are turning him a golden calf! Beware! Do you lose your joy and peace when certain principles you hold dear are not respected by others? Beware of the golden calf!
By allowing the golden calf to take the place of the Lord in your heart, you give access to the enemy who can snatch from you whatever or whoever you are more attached to than to your God. This is not how it should be. Pray to the Lord that He will help you to identify everything that constitutes a golden calf in your life and prevents the covenant of blessing He has established with you from being fully manifested in your life. So, get rid of every golden calf!
Psalm 106:20 tells us: “Thus they changed their glory into the image of an ox that eats grass“. Do not trade the glory that God has reserved for you through His covenant of blessing for any calf, no matter how golden it may be! Let nothing stand in the way of this precious covenant between you and the Father, and you will see His blessing in all areas of your life.
May God bless you!
