Hello [user:firstname | default:Beloved],
As children of God, we must not live according to the lusts of the flesh if we want to inherit the kingdom of heaven. “For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” warns the Word of God in Romans 8:13. How can we then overcome this flesh that lures us so much into sin? How do we kill the deeds of the body? The Bible gives us two main keys to accomplish this: crucify the flesh and walk in the Spirit.
“Those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires” says the Bible in the book of Galatians 5:24. To crucify the flesh, one must treat his body harshly, as Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9:27. In the same way, “And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.” The Bible does not ask you to physically amputate your arm but to get rid of temptations, stumbling blocks that lead you into sin.
What makes you stumble in your walk with the Lord? You need to clearly identify what makes you sin. If this person you are constantly with, often makes you do things contrary to the Bible, given that Evil company corrupts good habits (1 Corinthians 15:33), you must then put an end to this friendship! If you meet her on the way, greet her with love but do not socialize with her anymore! Do you want to stop being an alcoholic? Then do not socialize any longer with the friends that drag you into it, change your itinerary if necessary, so as to no longer have to walk in front of the bars you used to go to together! To avoid having sex outside of marriage, as the Lord recommends, avoid staying alone with your fiancé (e) or a friend of the opposite sex. If you want to visit him / her, have one or two people with you and give priority to public places instead of those with no one around!
Is your smartphone making you a social networks addict, to the extent of neglecting prayer? Then, close your accounts on social networks, get rid of your smartphone and buy a simple phone without all these applications! Are you working in a corrupt environment where bribes are the only way to make money? Quit and trust God! He will give you a better job because you have chosen to please and love Him more than anything!
Yes, Beloved, deal harshly with yourself and cut off with everything that makes you backslide and lose the Kingdom of Heaven!
Crucify your flesh! Yes, do that but do not stop there. You must also use the second key: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16). To start with, fill the void of what you got rid of, by the things of the Spirit: have Christian friends, spend time in the meditation of the Word and in prayer. Set your mind on things above (Colossians 3: 2) and contemplate Christ in order to become like Him (2 Corinthians 3:18).
By crucifying your flesh and walking in the Spirit, you will see over time that the works of the flesh will no longer be your portion, but rather those of the Spirit. And they will make you see the glory of God!
May God bless you [user:firstname | default:Beloved]
